Weekly Song Challenge #0002

Ok so this one was a little weird. I figured I would do a cool little piano piece, buuuut do to technical problems, I lost the file. Damn. Soooo instead I plugged in my acoustic guitar hit record and this is what happened… I ended up being well within the time limit on this one, recording took a whole four minutes, mixing took another four, exporting took two, and now it’s uploading… it’s a 90 minute song challenge!

well, anyway here is the one take, one track, acoustic song…

Project: EVIE: #00: Preamble

Last year I made a short film for, ostensibly, a short film festival. Despite me having not made a film since high school. here’s how the process unfolded:

01. Find out my good friend is running said film festival.
02. Decide making a film is a good idea.
03. At 2am write the entire script in one sitting and submit it under a fake name.
04. Friend tells me about this ‘mopey’ script he’s gotten.

all pretty straightforward really, until, I FIND OUT MY SCRIPT WAS ACCEPTED.

Now I have to make the damned thing.

Since I had a certain visual style in mind, which required A snorricam. Google it.

so I built one.

Then we filmed. A friend kindly agreed to play the main role and we were off.
Filming went fine, until we had to film ‘the party scene”.  I set aside an entire night, which went from one disaster to the goddamn next. I then filmed the last few scenes two weeks later once the hangovers had died down.

Editing took a solid month, which wasn’t helping me in my full time studies. damn.

Composing was the only thing that went well, being my forte (to a certain extent).

Finally the GODDAMN FILM WAS DONE.

It was then aired as part of the festival on a full size film screen.

The phrase I used to describe the film, all said and done, was “better than half”  meaning it turned out surprisingly well but not fantastic.

Flash forward to now, I want to make another short film for this years film festival…

Weekly Song Challenge #0001

So since I’ve got this swish new site, I kinda need content… so, I’m going to spend the next ninety minutes making a song from scratch, I have no preconceived notions; I’m just going to open up cubase and go from there… I’m counting 90mins from when I start work, to when I click upload on bandcamp, since uploads take ages… The 90 minute song challenge!

I’m going to try and hit some benchmarks:
1. must be longer than two minutes
2. should include an instrument\sound that I haven’t used before
3. must include some for of vocals. eek.

14:20 Here we go!
14:30 got a decent drum track laid down
14:45 alright, sweet bass synth crosses off the new sound goal

now lets lay some sweet guitars in!
Oh god my acoustic is so ridiculously out of tune…

14:57 acoustics, done, time for electric double track!
15:04 well that didn’t take long…
15:10 after a quick phone call from mum, I recorded an Ah! that’ll do for vocals for now…
15:22 goddamit this piano melody sounds terrible
15:25 screw it, chords’ll do, right, lets mix…
15:41 turns out I can’t mix very well…
15:48 Holy Crap, just skated in at the end there!

And here’s the final product!

Turned out alright me thinks.
